This was the first time I’ve ever seen a rally-spec Toyota Corolla in person. For that matter, it’s probably the only time I ever will see a rally AE86, being that the more popular form of modding for this chassis tends to focus around drifting or circuit racing. Mu came over to get a quick alignment on his car, which was quite the pleasure. Something about an AE86 set at a ride height taller than stock tickles the fancy in an odd but proper way, thanks to its knobby dirt tires. So you know, it’s not JUST a tall Corolla, it’s actually used for what the owner claims.

The main thing that Mu wanted to do was to even-out the caster setting on his car. I believe the target was somewhere near 3 degrees, which is a lot less than we see in most cars, especially the more-common mid-90s and modern drift cars, especially ones with angle kits.

Here’s how the caster arm looks on this car. It’s very similar to adjusting caster on an S13 or S14; EZ.

After the alignment, Mu went on his way, and I haven’t seen this car since. Hopefully it’s out there tearing up some dirt roads or rally-cross events!
