VW Beetle with Flower Wheels

Flower Girl – Liz’s Volkswagen Beetle

Today’s world is littered with war and death, high cost of living, and cruise ship viruses. And yet, simultaneously we have… this. This silly little thing.

It’s been ages since I’ve been involved with something so ridiculous, yet absolutely befitting. The last time I felt such a way was when I first laid eyes on those somewhat notorious Ronal “teddy bear” wheels that show up from time to time. Those have always been a baffling choice for whatever car they’d eventually call “home.” However, today’s case was something entirely different. This was no mere joke — this was perfection.

VW Beetle Alignment

Liz brought her VW Beetle over for the royal treatment — a front-end alignment, plus new tires for her brand new flower wheels. And before you ask, yes, you can get these wheels directly from the Tire Rack website. The alignment was not too shabby, with zero adjustment points in the rear, and a front end that required correction of excessive toe-in. After a short side-quest with the alignment, it was time for the main course.

Even though the flower wheels were fairly small at 16-inches, they weighed a ton. I guess petals carry a lot more weight than spokes. I speculate that these wheels are based on some type of truck-wheel design with a little bit of finessing for the transition to flower-shoes for the Beetle.

New Wheels on the VW Beetle

And here’s the finished product along with the yellow center caps to complete the look. I should have anticipated the stares as I drove Liz’s car around the block to verify the alignment. But I suppose the only difference between being laughed at and laughing together is whether or not you decide to laugh as well. Part of me is quite happy with the way this turned out. The other part of me is disgusted for feeling that way. LOL
